Why I’m teaching coding to my 8-year-old kid
Jason is nearing 8 but I’ve already started teaching him programming. No, I know nothing about it. But I’m trying to help him in every possible way I can. I’ve bought him some basic programming learning books to start with.
You might wonder as you read this. The reaction against taking such a step might start with the ‘F’ word. You might even question the viability of making such a decision as in what a 7-year-old boy would do by learning to code.
Frankly, this isn’t my idea. Thanks to this infographic by Kodable, which tells that learning programming is as simple as learning a new language and it has its own benefits. Interestingly, you don’t need any kind of special skill sets, degrees, or college education to learn to code.
I was astonished to know that all the public school 1st graders in Estonia are learning to code. It’s in their curriculum. Check out this infographic and you’ll know why I’m in support of this.
